Winter Solstice 2012

Anglesey
The land of King Arthur and Merlin. Raye and Dave's first day was spent investigating...Cliff Castle...a promontory on Holy Island which is a part of Anglesey. Spectacular views...and understandably probably a hill fort although little remains of any signs of past life.
The following day we visited Holy Mountain and stopped at the RSPB at South Stack island (lighthouse). Right next to this area was Elin's Tower, a castellated tower. Nearby we walked to an area covered with hut circles. Brilliant, there were about 15 (only 1 shown in photo). They were just like those we visited in Galicia which are called 'castros'.
The dowsing rods crossed within each household. Assuming there was a lot of earth energies within each hut. We also found a leyline running right through the village. This was a fantastic find due to the close connection with Galicia. We probably knew this before but it would suggest a Celtic connection.
We then visited a few standing stones, saw the church at Din Ligwy and went to the burial chamber at Bryn Celli Ddu (Vic and Dave had been before).
Our anniversary trip was completed by a nostalgic visit to Pili Palas (butterfly farm, now has Meerkats!!!)

Straight to St Winefrides Well. Again, this time I bathed in the Well waters. Swam length...VERY cold but amazing. This time Raye took  video of the divining rods. They crossed everywhere but then as I approached the back of the well they both began to twirl manically! Never experienced this before. Started on pilgrimage...uphill for ages. Eventually arrived at Pentasaph Monastery at 16:15. Toilet, Raye stamped passport...box by car park sign. Then taxi back to Monastry, staying overnight. After breakfast drove to Pentasaph and left the car in the Monastry car park. Walked up and up and up hill. Halfwa,y along lady in garden said her and hubby usually do it other way round!  Occasionally picking up Pilgrim Way Route over fields. Eventually after hard slog, arrived at Maen Achwyfan! Cattle all around but risked close up. Good, the tallest cross in Wales. Rods crossed everywhere, even with cattle. Raye sat on bench then both back to get passport stamped. Bird box at entrance! Autumn Equinox 2023    kiosk there but free. Ruin very impressive and very grand. The Abbey had been used by Benedictines. They were canons and not monks, so could mix with other people. Checked my divining rods. They crossed everywhere inside the ruins. Unusual. So unable to find a ley line

SPRING EQUINOX 2024

Went a bit later for Equinox but wanted to prepare for Summer Solstice with Raye. The idea being that we will start the first phase of the 130 plus miles from Basingwerk Abbey for Bardsey Island. Walked up from Car Park to Basingwerk Abbey. Checked it out. Pleasant and tranquill ruin. Will check with rods next time. Then went to The Information Centre. Bought two booklets to be stamped on journey later. The Abbey was founded in 1131. The oldest part is the 12th century chapter house, with the remains of the benches where the Cistercian monks sat for daily readings. The usually silent monks were allowed to speak in the parlour nearby.
